Te Rangihīroa College - Otago University

Te Rangihīroa College is a purpose-built residential facility at the University of Otago, providing accommodation for 450 students across six-storeys, and two interconnected buildings. The project was delivered on a tight central Dunedin site and includes a mix of accommodation, dining, and social spaces.
Sustainability was a key focus throughout design and delivery. Our Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulic, Acoustic, and Sustainability teams worked closely alongside Southbase and the entire design team to provide a design that minimises environmental impact while creating a healthy and comfortable living environment for students. Energy-efficient systems, peak electricity demand reduction, water use reduction, low light pollution, and thoughtful planning contributed to the project achieving a 6 Green Star Design & As Built rating.
Alongside the Green Star rating, Te Rangihiroa has been recognised with an Excellence Award in Multi-Unit Residential Property at the 2024 Property Industry Awards and won the Aotearoa Construction Project of the Year at the Project Management Institute of New Zealand (PMINZ) awards in 2025.
