Nestled at the base of Paparoa National Park, Punangairi Visitor Experience Centre blends functionality seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment. The two linked buildings house a Department of Conservation visitor centre, a multi-media visitor experience, retail and meeting spaces, and cafe.

Powell Fenwick’s Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulic and Acoustics teams worked with Shepard & Rout Architects to ensure that services were unobtrusive and complemented the building’s architecture.

A testament to reaching the goals it set out to achieve, Punangairi has received multiple awards including Merit in Tourism & Leisure at the 2025 Property Industry Awards, and Gold in Tourism & Retail, and a Special Award at the 2025 NZ Commercial Project Awards.
