Skyline Queenstown’s multi-stage redevelopment is a tourism infrastructure project designed to enhance guest experiences and support future visitation demand while maintaining operations throughout construction. The redevelopment includes a new gondola system, replacement top and bottom terminals, a multi-storey car park, a major extension to the existing complex, hospitality and retail facilities, conference spaces, upgraded luge infrastructure, and expanded hospitality and dining facilities.
Our Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Civil and Structural teams have contributed across multiple stages of the project over more than a decade, delivering integrated engineering solutions for both the gondola infrastructure and wider visitor facilities. Our designs have incorporated energy-efficient heat pump air conditioning, commercial kitchen and specialist extraction systems, future-proofed hydraulic services, and extensive electrical upgrades including lighting designed to support safe night-time luge operations while meeting strict environmental requirements.
A key challenge was enabling Skyline to remain operational throughout construction. Careful staging and coordination allowed the existing gondola and visitor facilities to continue operating while new infrastructure was delivered alongside them. At the upper terminal, a new extension was constructed and connected via a purpose-designed service tunnel, ensuring a seamless transition as the main building was redeveloped.
The project demonstrates our ability to deliver large-scale, complex infrastructure in a live operational environment, balancing visitor experience, operational resilience and long-term sustainability while helping shape the future of one of New Zealand’s most recognisable tourism destinations.
Stages 1-3 of this redevelopment project won a Gold Award at the 2026 NZ Commercial Project Awards.
